Explore the Hungarian language and capital with a friendly teacher and guide during our 3-hour Fungarian classes, providing a basic introduction to Hungarian culture and much more. Let one of our friendly Fungarian teachers be your guide to learning some basic understanding of the playfully poetic Hungarian language, while also sharing personalized recommendations for your Budapest visit and enjoying a guided tour along historic Andrássy Avenue to Heroes’ Square.

With the initial introduction session held amid informally iconic Budapest settings like locals’ cafés near major city monuments, 3-hour Fungarian classes cover basic Hungarian greetings and basic interactions, such as what to say (and what not to say) when ordering a drink or a meal. Additionally, participants are offered greater insight into Hungary’s unique cuisine and suggestions for getting around Budapest in the most efficient ways possible, before enjoying a guided tour offering insight on historical buildings, restaurants, and more.

During the 3-hour Fungarian class available in multiple languages, visitors learn fundamentals like how to count from one to five, and can also ask questions about daily life in Hungary and about the country’s culture and history – even learning why Hungarians call themselves Magyars. This class also includes more details about the Hungarian lifestyle and pointers for meeting locals.

User Reviews

“3 of the most useful hours I’ve ever spent on holiday!” ”We signed up for Fungarian before we left for Budapest and chose the three hour option. … There is always a fear that guided tours are simply a way for individuals to try and steer tourists to certain places that they have a deal with but it was very clear that Miklos does this job because he has such a love of his language, culture and history. He was very inspiring and the three hours went very quickly. After the language and culture parts we then moved on to look a range of other places and got a very in-depth history lesson, backed up with some of Miklos own personal experiences of growing up under communism.

It was also a great way to start off a Budapest visit- the little nuances and traditions were explained and this enhanced our trip especially through our interactions with Hungarians, They appreciated the effort we went to to try and use some of the phrases we had picked up and it is one way to try and dispel the reputation of the ignorant tourist who just points and speaks loudly in English!

Overall I cannot rate Fungarian enough- Miklos has an obvious talent and love of educating and this came through the whole time we were there. It should be an essential part of any visit to Budapest since it enriched our whole experience in a fun and interesting way.”
